  • Does ASPnix use any renewable energy or purchase Carbon Offsets?

    Yes! We are a proud partner of TerraPass, we subscribe to and purchase Carbon Offsets for our total annual electrical usage within our data-center!

    Currently our data-center itself does not source any renewable energy from the grid, though we take great care in making sure everything under our control is as energy-efficient as possible.

    • 80+ rated titanium power supplies – All properly rated for server load for best efficiency
    • SSDs where available – SSD drives consume far less power than normal mechanical drives, usually 2 – 3x less power
    • Where mechanical drives are used, we have intelligent RAID software that can spin down (throttle) or even completely idle a drive based on usage
    • Fully support all of Intel’s power management features to throttle and adjust process speeds and voltage to reduce power consumption during varying loads

    We inspect all hardware such as switches, routers, servers and all other equipment to make sure we are purchasing equipment that both meets our requirements for usage and is as energy-efficient as possible.

  • Windows Control Panel – New Features!

    We are pleased to announce a few new features of our Windows control panel! We are pleased to bring a few requested features to our control panel system and give our customers some new features and capabilities included with their hosting plans!

    For the look-n-feel…

    We’ve added colored buttons to better assist users in distinguishing certain actions, such as the “Save” vs. “Delete” action.  This makes it easier to eyeball what action is what simply based on the color of the button. Dangerous or destructive actions are red or orange, while friendlier actions are green, blue or grey. Disabled or not-available actions are also easier to spot as the buttons visibility will be reduced.

    This only applies to the ASPnix branded control system, no changes have been made to the Reseller control panel.

    For MySQL databases…

    • Option to recreate a database
    • Option to truncate a database
    • Option to optimize a database’s tables

    Truncating a database empties all tables within the database, many developers have requested this to make it easier to clear a database without having to drop tables and drop/recreate them or use PHPMyAdmin.

    The “optimize” option will execute the MySQL “OPTIMIZE TABLE” query against all tables within the database.

    Lastly, the “recreate” option will delete the existing database and recreate it and assign the same users, collation and character set to the new database. The recreated database will be empty and contain no data.

    For the DNS editor / Zone records…

    We are happy to now have support for CAA record types! CAA DNS records are used to control which certificate authorities can issue certificates for your domain and be notified of failures. Beginning September 8th 2017, all publicly trusted CAs will be required to respect CAA records. Generating records is fast and easy! We encourage customers to use the generator found here https://sslmate.com/labs/caa/ to create the required CAA records for your domains.

    Important note for Resellers..

    If you are a reseller customer and use your own portal installation, an update will be required. Please download the latest portal application from the client area. Due to changes in the DNS API,  previous builds will no longer work.

  • SmarterMail Upcoming Emergency Maintenance

    This evening at 9PM MDT we will be performing an update to the SmarterMail service on our primary SmarterMail server. We expect this update to take no longer than 60 minutes. This is a minor upgrade with only a few bug fixes (1 semi-critical) as well as a some additional changes to allow SmarterTools to further debug some interface performance issues.

    During this time, our incoming gateways will process and hold any incoming email and deliver them once we have completed the update.

  • SmarterMail Upcoming Emergency Maintenance

    This evening at 10PM MDT we will be performing an update to the SmarterMail service on our primary SmarterMail server. We expect this update to take no longer than 60 minutes. This is the first major “minor” upgrade to SmarterMail and resolves a very large number of issues and adds some needed improvements, including…

    • Added back the “Advanced Search” feature
    • Null sender fix for spam checks
    • Accepting a meeting in WebDAV from EAS and/or web mail does not create the email alert in WebDAV
    • Accepting a meeting invite in an ActiveSync client and then accepting it again in a WebDAV client overwrites the calendar event data
    • Autoresponder page becomes very unresponsive in Safari when entering any text in the editor
    • Cannot download public file storage files within Firefox or Internet Explorer 11
    • Chat status is showing people as idle when they are not
    • Clickable links in reports in dark theme are difficult to read
    • Contact and account profile birthdays are saving with incorrect date in web interface.
    • Added Portuguese and Simplified Chinese translation files

    Along with many other improvements and fixes.

    During this time, our incoming gateways will process and hold any incoming email and deliver them once we have completed the update.
