  • SmarterMail Calendar Retention Policy Changes

    Beginning on January 1st, 2019 we will enable a 12 month retention policy for calendar events. This means if you use the SmarterMail calendar, events that are older than 12 months from the current date are automatically removed. Events before January 1st, 2018 would be automatically removed. and so on. This will not affect recurring events. This policy is being put in place to aid in creating a better calendar experience within SmarterMail, prevent long loading times of events, and the “spinning blue chaser” when changing event times and attendees.

    We have worked with the SmarterTools team on and off to improve calendar performance, while performance has been increased and optimizations have been made, only so much can be done. We have many thousands of clients with thousands if not 10s of thousands of events dating back 7 or more years.

  • After uploading a module, I receive a corrupted file message. Why?

    The main cause of this is due to the installed ionCube loader being too old and not recognizing the encoded script. Please check with your hosting provider to see what version of ionCube is installed. You can also view this using WHMCS by going to “Utilities” => “System” => “PHP Info” – You an find the ionCube loader version under the “Zend Engine” logo.

    Please note that all modules require ionCube loader v10.1.x or higher to run.

    The other cause is uploading files in ASCII mode instead of binary. Please make sure your file transfer client is uploading files in binary mode.

  • SmarterMail Upcoming Maintenance (Completed)

    This Friday, December 7th at 10PM MST we will be performing an upgrade to our primary SmarterMail server to the new major version v17. This a brand new major release of SmarterMail that includes tons of new features, changes and improvements.     This upgrade makes major changes to the backend of SmarterMail which requires time to complete the conversion process. Along with the backend conversion, SmarterMail v17 has also introduced a brand new indexing system that supports non-Western character sets and offers greater performance and efficiency over the current indexer. There is also a conversion process between the old indexing system and the new one, however, the transition for that is seamless.

    Please note that while the backend conversion is pending or processing your account, you will not be able to access your email until the process has completed for your account, but please be aware that we are not able to tell if a specific account has completed the process, when an account may complete or anything related to the conversion process. We will update our announcement once the process has completed.

    MAPI is not yet available, but is coming very soon! We are very excited for the changes coming with MAPI as it will offer a full Exchange experience with Outlook!

    During this time, our incoming gateways will process and hold any incoming email and deliver them once we have completed the update. While 2 hours have been allocated, this is just a precaution in case any additional work or restarts need to be performed.

    Update (12:05AM MST) – Conversion has completed, the server is online and processing email. We are working to address an issue with our control panel’s interface to SmarterMail. We expect to have this fixed shortly. Control panel interface issue has been resolved.

    Update (1:22AM MST) – A few customers have reported higher than usual response times for the webmail interface. This is normal for the moment, SmarterMail is currently reindexing all users and their email for the new indexing/search system. This process will take a few days to finish.
