  • MX01 SmarterMail updated (v10.4.4653)

    Comments Off on MX01 SmarterMail updated (v10.4.4653) September 27th, 2012

    Mail server MX01 SmarterMail installation has been upgraded to the latest release available. This is a minor release that has no new additional features; however it does fix many issues with the web interface as well as with ActiveSync. This update also includes major improvements in terms of performance with the web interface and the SmarterMail core service. This update has also addressed an issue that several users reported to us – The web interface had problems creating / displaying folders with special characters and scheduled reports had the wrong / incorrect date on them along with quite a few other issues.

    For an in-depth look at what has changed in the 10.4.4653 release please review the SmarterMail Release Notes page.

    The reason this upgrade was not previously announced was due to an outage that occurred this evening with the POP3 service stalling and requiring a restart of the SmarterMail core service. Since the service was going down anyways, the upgrade was made while the server was down in order to prevent back-to-back outages.

  • Using FTP through Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer

    2 comments September 25th, 2012

    Due to security restrictions on our FTP server all FTP credentials are treated as “valid” credentials. This is done to prevent hammering and brute forcing for passwords. Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer by default send anonymous credentials to the FTP server resulting in “INVALID LOGIN” displaying.

    To use FTP through Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer you will need to specify a few additional parameters in your ftp hostname.

    ftp://YOURUSERNAME:YOURPASSWORD@YOURFTPADDRESS

    This will pass your credentials to the FTP server instead. We recommend using a true FTP client such as FileZilla (Free), SmartFTP (Paid), WinSCP (Free) or Commander One (Mac – Paid). These FTP clients fully support the FTP protocol and are dedicated FTP clients as well as support FTP over secured channels.

  • MYSQL01 (USA) Server Upgrade (5.1 => 5.5)

    5 comments September 12th, 2012

    We will be performing an upgrade of our MySQL services in our US data-center on Friday, September 14th at 10PM MST. This upgrade will affect MySQL server MYSQL01, during this upgrade the MySQL services will be unavailable, and we expect this upgrade to take up to 2 hours. The initial upgrade of the core services will only take a few moments to complete, however the “mysql_upgrade” utility will be the majority of the required upgrade time. This utility will check all tables to insure compatibility with the new build of MySQL 5.5 and attempt to fix any incompatibilities where needed. This will also upgrade permissions to support any and all new features of MySQL 5.5.

    Please make sure to backup all of your MySQL databases to your local computer before this time. You may use https://pma.anaxanet.com/ or the control panels “Backup Database” feature to do this. Please avoid submitting tickets to our support department in regards to a website or application being unavailable during the upgrade time.

    We will update this post with information about the upgrade If you have any questions or concerns regarding this, please contact our support department.
